About Alpharstone
Why we built a firm around a single relationship
Alpharstone started because too many Edmontonians were retiring with savings and no plan — just a drawer full of statements.
Thirteen years of one-advisor, one-client retirement planning
Alpharstone was founded in Edmonton in 2011 by a small group of certified financial planners who had spent years inside large institutions watching the same pattern repeat: a client would arrive in their early sixties with a reasonable nest egg, be handed a boilerplate asset allocation, and leave without anyone having asked them what they actually wanted retirement to look like. The firm was built as a deliberate correction. Every client who joins Alpharstone is assigned a named advisor before the second meeting, and that advisor is responsible — genuinely accountable — for everything in the written plan. Over the past thirteen years we have completed more than 600 retirement income plans for Alberta households, with clients ranging from teachers and tradespeople to small business owners winding down operations. The charcoal-and-gold discipline of the Alpharstone brand reflects our core belief: retirement planning should be serious, precise, and warm — not bureaucratic, not flashy.
How we work — and what we won't promise
Our process begins with a listening session — not a sales meeting. We ask about your retirement vision in concrete terms: where you want to live, what you want to be doing at 70, what financial legacy matters to you. From that conversation we build a written brief that frames your savings position, income timeline, and estate priorities. Within thirty days of your first paid engagement you receive a draft retirement income plan, which we review together and revise before it becomes the living document we update annually. We are honest about the limits of what planning can guarantee. Market returns are never certain, legislative rules change, and longevity is unpredictable. What a good plan can do is build enough margin into each scenario that you're not fragile when the unexpected happens. We won't promise you a specific retirement income number — but we will promise that you'll understand every variable that affects it, and that your advisor will be reachable when those variables change. Alpharstone serves clients primarily in Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, and across the Edmonton Capital Region, with select remote clients elsewhere in Alberta.
